Hi Andy, tell these guys what you want to do and they'll hook you up. They've been doing the minidisc thing from the beginning.

I ordered a Sony Mini Disc recorder from Amazon and just received the disturbing news that this thing is not available from anywhere:
"Sony MZ-NH900 Hi-MD MiniDisc Walkman
Though we had expected to be able to send this item to you, we've
since found that it is not available from any of our sources at this
time. We realize this is disappointing news to hear, and we apologize
for the inconvenience we have caused you.
We have cancelled this item from your order."
What's the next best thing?
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

The only recommendation I have is to stick with Sony. When I still owned mine, they got best reviews for sound, durability, overall quality etc.
Thanks Derek, DSOP and Suspiria!
I'll check out these options.
Mine is a Sony MZ-R50. It's probably 7 years old.
Hey DSOP
What is the easy of recording a practice session and then getting it to CD?
I need a really simple device just for the practice room.
I'd reccomend the new generations of Minidisc, the HI-MD. They have an USB output (while on the older models the USB was only for input), and can record in PCM non compressed mode. I've recorded some samples on my website with an older model, now I've got an HI-MD and the quality is much better
I believe Sony are phasing out the current Hi-MDs for new models that can play mp3 directly. They have sellouts of current models in Sweden as well.
(There are links to some news about new models on www.minidisc.org)
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It isn't very easy with mine. You need to take the output from the MD into the input of your computer and record it in realtime. After that, you take the wav file and burn the CD. Mine has an optical digital output though, which is nice if you can use it.Originally posted by PocketPlayer:
